How New Yorkers Can Help Survivors of Typhoon Haiyan

The full scale of the disaster caused by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines is only now becoming apparent.

As the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan continues to unfold the human cost of this tragic natural disaster is coming into focus. It’s estimated that as many as 600,000 people have been displaced, particularly in cities such as Tacloban, where it’s a struggle just to get food and clean drinking water.  Eight people died this week in a stampede at a rice factory.

Former Fi2W Fellow Aurora Almendral is currently in the Philippines reporting for NPR, and urges New Yorkers to give whatever they can.

“The relief efforts are dismal compared with the scale of the destruction,” she said via email.
